Household Recycling
Mayside Recycling operates as a contractor, processing household recycling for the States of Guernsey.
Every Parish in Guernsey has an allocated bin collection night. Clear kerbside recycling bags are provided for paper and cardboard; and blue bags are provided for plastic (PET, HDPE 2, PP5 and PP6), tins and cartons.
The clear and blue kerbside bags are delivered to the Mayside Recycling depot overnight. Mayside Recycling uses manual and mechanical processes to separate the different materials.
The separated contents are baled, and shipped to specialist recycling firms in the UK who process the materials to make new products.

Mayside Recycling also processes the majority of materials deposited in Recycling Bring Banks, located in public collection points around the island.
Different bring banks are provided for different materials: including plastics (PET, HDPE 2, PP5 and PP6), tins, cartons, paper and cardboard, glass, clothing and books/DVD’s. Most of the Bring Bank containers are tipped at the Mayside depot.
The plastics, tins, cartons, paper and cardboard are manually and mechanically sorted at Mayside, then baled and exported to specialist recycling facilities in the UK. Some materials may be moved to one of the other facilities within the Guernsey Recycling Group (GRG), if other machinery is required to sort the materials.
Glass bring banks are processed by States Works. Clothing and book/DVD donation banks are handled by local charities.
We accept “Dry Recycling,” which includes all types of paper, magazines, newspaper, office paper, envelopes, toilet rolls and card tubes, cardboard and corrugated card.
We accept most plastics including PET, HDPE 2, PP5 and PP6 – which includes most types of bottles, tubs and trays. We also accept tin cans, tetra-pak and paper based cartons.
